To fully understand what our revolution is about, you have to go back to the beginning. I'm sure you've heard of Lenny Bruce, and this is where the story begins. Lenny was persecuted and put to his death, so to speak, by the powers that be in our fair, free country for speaking words. That's right, words. It seems THE MAN didn't like the things that Lenny was saying, as he was laying bare the truth about America. The truth being that their are such things as homosexuality (oh, no!), drug usage, racism, and religious hypocrisy (no way!) in the United States. For this he was arrested numerous times, had his license to perform revoked, and died penniless and broken on his bathroom floor from a morphine overdose. Now that's comedy, huh?
The point being that to some of us, comedy really is a form of art. There is more to it than just standing there telling stupid jokes about shopping with your girlfriend. To some comics, stand up comedy is a form of social protest, a way to fight back peacefully against the evils of this world while maintaining your sanity at the same time! This doesn't mean that I take myself seriously. Quite the opposite, I think this world is a joke and I am not the one you want in charge of it! I choose to lob my little bombs from my bunker of a comedy club. Laughs are the weapons of my war, and when the battle is over everyone goes home. I prefer this to shooting up my former workplaces as some have done here in our peace loving land o'plenty.
So, take the time to look back, enjoy works from the past like Bill and Lenny, and look to the future with hope as I do. There are a lot of good, young comics around ready to rise up and blow away the lies and deceptions put upon us by our crumbling society. Life is a joke, but jokes can be serious, as Lenny found out the hard way. And remember that you are free the next time you buckle up, can't smoke at a restaurant, can't get in to see a doctor because you have no insurance, or fill up for $375 dollars. We have a lot of work to do. Enjoy -Tim Jones -
Tim takes aim at American culture with deadly accuracy in this 30 minute uncut performance filmed at Wiseacre's comedy club in Tyson's Corner, Virginia. Jones goes right into the belly of the beast with a lethal combination of sarcasm and truth, hitting all aspects of Americana with comedic precision. Everyone from Advertising executives to the Enron guys and even the President should look out, Tim Jones has arrived...
Tim Jones was born in Ft. Thomas, KY, but he might as well have been born on Mars. Or that's how he felt, anyway. He started performing at a young age, impersonating Steve Martin in his 4th grade talent show. They said even then he was ahead of his time. Tim then went on to sharpen his writing skills penning articles for his high school newspaper, and his performance skills playing drums in the band and in garage bands around town.
